A genius who built toward God

Antoni Gaudí is the most visited architect in the world — and, at the same time, one of the least understood. Behind the towers of the Sagrada Família stands a man who conceived his craft as an offering: every vault, every column, and every stained-glass window springs from an inner life that this book traces step by step.

José Manuel Almuzara, architect and Gaudí scholar, has devoted more than three decades to spreading Gaudí’s legacy and, since 1992, has driven the cause for his beatification. In these pages he shares, with personal reflection, the stories, testimonies, and teachings that make Gaudí a model for living: a love of work well done, the observation of nature as the Creator’s “great book,” and a faith lived to the very last day.

An essay for readers of architecture, art, and spirituality: the inner biography of the genius who turned stone into prayer.

Three views of a single genius

Gaudí, the man

A model for living, with joys and sorrows, victories and defeats: the son, the friend, and the citizen who strove to meet the demands of his family, social, and professional circumstances.

Gaudí, the architect

The pioneering genius who applied the laws of nature to his architecture, a forerunner of sustainability and recycling, and a champion of both individual work and teamwork as the fruit of collaboration.

Gaudí, the Christian

The instrument who placed his gifts at the service of God and of others, with charity, mercy, and humility; the believer whose faith upheld every stone of his work.

«Gaudí considered himself an instrument in God’s creation: he placed his gifts at the service of the Creator and of mankind.»

The centenary book

Published in the centenary year of Antoni Gaudí’s death (1926–2026) — the same year in which Pope Leo XIV celebrated the centenary Mass at the Sagrada Família, blessed the Tower of Jesus Christ crowning the world’s tallest church, and prayed at the architect’s tomb. Gaudí, declared Venerable by the Church in 2025, continues on his path toward the altars, and this book explains why.
